If the student fails the auto-refractor , you must rescreen all test within the scope of the vision law (Observation, Snellen Chart and the eye machine). If you have more questions, contact your CHNS. |
CIRCUIT- When a medical report from a ophthalmologist or optometrist indicates that a student’s vision is 20/70 or less in the better eye with correction or that a student’s visual field is 20 degrees or less, a request for vision consultation/services should be submitted to CIRCUIT.

Message EARS Program
- Arkansas Children’s Hospital will see children regardless of their ability to pay. So the family can certainly ask the child’s primary care physician for a medical referral/order to have a hearing test at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Although MOST primary care physicians have the form and know the process for referring to ACH outpt specialty clinics, I am attaching the form for you to see just in case you feel like you want to give that to the family. If the school district decided to pay for this visit themselves, we have a process to make that work also. We certainly see some districts do that and provide transportation to and from ACH.
- The EARS Program at AR Children’s (which is the program I work in) provides school-based audiology services to schools/preschools around the state on a fee-based, contract system. So if your district wants to contract us to come onsite to your school building and complete a hearing test on this child, we can do that. I am attaching the TEMPLATE for that type of contract (if you all want to pursue this, let me know and I can put information specific to your district in the template very quickly).
I hope this helps a little – these cases are tough BUT ACH never refuses a patient due to lack of ability to pay.
